Il Presidente Lyndon Johnson consegna il Fermi Award a Robert Oppenheimer e un premio di 50000USD. Dopo 9 anni dal verdetto per la sospensione dell’accesso al materiale classificato, si tratta della pubblica riconciliazione fra il governo e lo scienziato. Robert tiene un discorso in cui dice: “…we are engaged in this great enterprise of our time, testing whether men can both preserve and enlarge life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and live without war as the great arbiter of history”. Edward Teller, ex collega di Oppenheimer, e’ presente alla cerimonia e stringe la mano allo scienziato. Kitty, la moglie di Robert, non ha pero’ perdonato a Teller la testimonianza contro il marito alla Security Hearing di 9 anni prima.
