Nikola Tesla, dopo aver sondato altri possibili finanziatori, torna a scrivere a J.P. Morgan per avere sostegno finanziario. Morgan replica con un chiaro “No”. Tesla risponde davvero arrabbiato e sapendo che Morgan si ritiene un devoto anglicano scrive: “You are a man like Bismark. Great but uncontrollable. (…) You are not Christian at all, you are fanatic musoulman. Once you say no, come what may, it is no.” E in una lettera seguente aggiunge: “You say you have fullfilled your contract with me. You have not. (…) You are a big man, but your work is wrought in passing form, mine is immortal. I came to you with the greates inventions of all times. I have more creations named after me than any man that has gone before not excepting Archimedes and Galileo – the giants of invention. (…) You discredited me!” Nonostante la incredibile rabbia di queste parole, Tesla spera ancora in un ripensamento di Morgan. Che non arrivera’. Nel Maggio 1905 scadra’ anche il brevetto del motore AC di Tesla, dopo 17 anni (la durata all’epoca di un brevetto). E a Settembre 1905 Rankine, socio di Tesla, muore improvvisamente a soli 47 anni. Tesla avra’ una crisi depressiva e nervosa, che arrivera’ al 1906. Dopodiche’ non tentera’ mai piu’ progetti altrettanto ambiziosi come Wardenclyffe.
