Sunday, late morning. Lepanto, now Greece. After an hour of fighting, the Turkish right and central wings are in disarray. Bragadin, and especially Quirini, carry out a brutal massacre of galleys and crews, who can only escape by fleeing ashore. Barbarigo is struck in the eye by an arrow and dies two days later. Ali falls fighting and his head is raised on a pike. The Turkish left wing, however, proves to be more capable than Andrea Doria, who begins by extending out to sea, allowing the Algerian to close in on the center and strike swiftly, inflicting heavy damage. At the end of the battle, the Fiorenza is the only Christian galley completely destroyed, but many others have been damaged, some seriously, beyond repair. Uluc Ali manages to escape into the open sea.
