The second edition of the book “Wetterkurzsclussel” is captured aboard U-559, before it sinks, by Anthony Fasson, Colin Grazier, and sixteen-year-old mess attendant Tommy Brown (all from HMS Petard). Knowledge of the meteorological messages will allow Bletchley Park to regain access to the Nazi codes, through so-called cribs, or small sequences of known characters.
