The Mongol Hulegu, brother of Khan Qubilai (ulus Yuan), and ruler of the Ilkhanid ulus in the Middle East, sends, as is their custom, a formal request for submission to the caliph al-Mustafa’sim’bi’llah, on the throne of what had been one of the greatest empires in history, the Islamic empire.
