After the Ottoman advance on Vienna, Count Miklos Zrinyi the Younger, grandson of the heroic defender of Szigetvar in 1566, launched continuous attacks on Ottoman lines of communication and supply. He mustered thirty thousand men and succeeded in besieging the Turkish besiegers of Szigetvar, taking them by surprise.
