Count Miklos Zrinyi the Younger, grandson of the heroic defender of Szigetvar in 1566, with thirty thousand men but no artillery, managed to lay siege to the Turkish besiegers of Szigetvar, taking them by surprise. He then turned towards the city of Pecs, also occupied by the Turks: he burned the city and destroyed the fortifications but failed to take the citadel.
