Almost in ruins, it is defended by the 24th Division of the Sixth Corps, under the command of Pyotr Likhachev. The cavalry attack ends in hand-to-hand combat. Likhachev himself is captured. The Russian defenders are massacred. Beauharnais’s 20,000 infantry consolidate their capture of the redoubt.
