Italian intelligence agent Colonel Frank B. Fellers, infiltrated into the American embassy in Rome, reports that the British Seventh Army’s offensive will begin the following day. This is valuable information for the Axis. However, General Gambara is unable to convince the Germans to put their troops on alert. “Swearing at the stubborn Germans,” he decides to defy orders and, on his own initiative, puts the Ariete Division on alert. The resistance of a small group of Ariete volunteers will prove decisive in preventing a British breakthrough.
