Jerusalem. The Romans, led by Titus himself and a thousand legionaries, enter through a small breach in the city walls. Eager to negotiate with the rebels, he pushes too far in and fails to order the breach to be widened. The Roman contingent is ambushed in the city’s narrow streets, and only Titus’s skill in positioning his archers saves the day. After three days, the Romans manage to enter the city again, and this time Titus has the entire northern wing of the walls demolished. The Romans flood into the city and lay siege to the Temple.
