On the outskirts of the village of Barnstedt, between Bremervörde and Hamburg, Himmler (who had assumed the identity of Heinrich Hitzinger) and a small group were stopped by a British military patrol and taken to prisoner-of-war camp 031 near Bramstedt. Himmler, revealing his identity, then requested an interview with Captain T. Sylvester, the camp’s commandant, in a vain attempt to secure preferential treatment.
