California. The 20 GeV SLAC particle accelerator is tested for the first time. It was created by thousands of researchers from Stanford University and other universities for quark research. SLAC’s electrons reach 99.9999999% of the speed of light. SLAC is the largest scientific instrument ever built at the time: 50 meters long and weighing 3,000 tons.
