Kandahar, Afghanistan. 3:00 a.m. An American sergeant leaves his base, enters three homes in two villages, Alkozai and Balandi, in the Panjwai district, and begins shooting. In the first home, located about 450 meters from the US base, he kills 11 people, including women and small children. In two other homes, he leaves seven more bodies lying on the ground.
