Libya. Battle of Bir and Gobi. The British attacked seven times, supported by RAF bombers, and were repelled seven times. Tanks twice penetrated the Axis defenses but were then neutralized. The British suffered over 300 deaths and hundreds of prisoners, while the Italians suffered around a hundred casualties. Among the Italian volunteers were also battalions of boys between the ages of 16 and 18 who had enlisted the previous year.
