Otranto. The assault on the walls of Ottoman Otranto is launched. The Hungarians rush up the ramp enthusiastically, chanting their typical martial songs. The quickest to climb (winning the 500 ducats promised by the Duke of Calabria) is Galeazzo Caracciolo. A furious melee ensues. However, before the attackers, the impressive chasm of the internal moat, dug by the Turks, opens up. Hungarians and Neapolitans fall into it, crushing them to death. Then follows the Neapolitan retreat in disarray. It is a collapse. The chances of taking the city are nil. Frustration and discouragement spread among the Aragonese and the Italian kingdoms. But even the Turks of Otranto are not faring any better: they are starting to eat dogs and cats, and only two thousand people, both healthy and sick, remain. The Turks will therefore decide, in any case, to treat with the Aragonese.
