Carcano, Brianza. A reckless Milanese operation leaves the Ambrosian troops exposed in the open. Frederick decides to take advantage of this. The imperial army swells on the march, reaching over 5,000 men, composed of 1,000 cavalry and the remainder infantry. The Milanese forces (plus 400 soldiers from Brescia and Piacenza) are equally matched but significantly inferior in cavalry.
