Giorgio Napolitano, at 88, is elected to a second presidential term. He wins his sixth presidential term after a serious crisis in the Italian political system, with the Democratic Party unable to support the candidacies of Marini and Prodi in the House, and unwilling to support the candidacies of Rodotà (proposed by the Five Star Movement) or Minister Cancellieri (proposed by Scelta Civica).
