American Howard Schultz opens a tiny coffee shop in Seattle, offering espresso, macchiato, etc., in a friendly atmosphere (something Schultz had grown fond of while staying in Milan in 1983); within 20 years he will have 10,000 locations worldwide under the name Starbucks (named after the first mate in Melville’s Moby Dick).
