Lucretius wrote De Rerum Natura (On the Nature of Things), where he states that “heavy bodies fall faster than light ones only in air and water, because these media yield more easily to what is heavier. But in a vacuum everything falls at the same speed, regardless of weight, because the vacuum offers no resistance.”
