The American scientist Robert Goddard, given the immeasurable interstellar distances and consequently the very long times for possible interstellar travel, discusses for the first time the possibility of colonizing other star systems with “protoplasms” engineered so as not to start from scratch, but so as to incorporate (in the genetic heritage, we would say today) part of human evolution and experience.
