The American writer Edgar Allan Poe, in his prose poem “Eureka,” describes a universe as an infinite series of “clusters of clusters,” each with its own laws and no contact with us. Something similar would be hypothesized in 1907 by Edmund Fournier d’Albe, Wright, Kant, and Lambert.
