1683 – 1699

The Age of Heroes, or Age of Heroes, in Austrian history. It was a period of conquests and reconquests by the Habsburgs at the expense of the Ottomans. Among the heroes were Charles of Lorraine, Turkelouis-Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden, Guy von Starhenberg, Florimund of Mercy, and of course, the greatest of all, Prince Eugene of Savoy. It included a series of six miraculous victories: the saving of Vienna, Buda (1686), Nagyharsany (1687), Belgrade (1688), Slankamen (1691), Zenta (1697), the crossing of the Tisza River near Belgrade (1697), and 14 military campaigns that led to the Entente of 1699.
