Summer 1944

Curtis E. LeMay, now transferred from Europe to the Pacific, orders the first firebombing of Tokyo. LeMay even chooses a mixture of magnesium, for its high temperatures, and napalm for its splatter effect, so as to ignite a firestorm. The goal is to annihilate Japanese cities, bring about the enemy’s surrender, and prevent an American invasion.
