Buda. The Christian siege of the Ottoman city has been going on for several weeks without success. Elector Maximilian Emanuel, having just dismounted from his horse, moves to greet some commanders. His groom is holding onto the horse’s reins when a cannon shot hits the horse’s hindquarters, spraying blood, bones, and intestines onto the nearby tent of Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden and the Duke of Salms.
