China. Prince Seng, the ferocious Mongol leader of the Chinese imperial army, has British diplomats captured and imprisoned. The prisoners are treated inhumanely, bound so tightly that their limbs become gangrenous, and they are eaten alive by worms. The description of these tortures will provoke Western vengeance, culminating in the sacking of the Summer Palace.
