Ada Lovelace’s groundbreaking “Notes by the Translator” are published in the journal Scientific Memoirs. Ada will never publish another scientific article. She will become addicted to gambling and opiates and will die in 1852. Her potential partner and collaborator, Babbage, will also die in poverty, without having succeeded in building his general-purpose machine.
