special Task Force chaired by US Vice President Agnew reports that the United States faces three options for the future of space travel: 1) Space Shuttle and Space Station for $4–6 billion annually; 2) Mars for $8 billion annually; 3) Space Shuttle, Space Station, Moon Station, and Mars for $8–10 billion annually (for a longer period). Nixon chooses a fourth option: just the Space Shuttle and a space station built from Apollo leftovers (SkyLab).
