Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, leader of Al Qaeda in the Horn of Africa, is killed by American commandos in Somalia. The car he is traveling in is hit by a missile fired from a helicopter. Witnesses say at least one helicopter lands and picks up the bodies of the car’s occupants. Nabhan was believed to be involved in the 1998 attacks on the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed more than 200 people and injured over 4,000, mostly Kenyans.
