At Peenemunde base, Von Braun achieved the first successful launch of a V-2 (third attempt, called “Cucumber”); the previous two attempts had failed; the experimental A-4 prototype, however, traveled 190.5 km at 1.34 km/s, reaching an altitude of 85 km.
