Rome. On the very day Corbino and Fermi were supposed to meet to discuss young Enrico’s future, the Fascist march on Rome takes place. Corbino is a prominent figure, Minister of Education in 1921, and in 1923 he will also be Minister of National Economy, although he never takes up the Fascist Party membership card. He is a brilliant and savvy technocrat. On October 28th, in his conversation with Enrico, Corbino correctly predicts the fascist dictatorship. He recommends Fermi a scholarship to the University of Göttingen, Germany, which Enrico wins on October 30th.
