Stalingrad. Seydlitz, Paulus’ subordinate, disobeying his (and the Führer’s) precise orders, makes the right move and moves the 94th Motorized Division southward to extricate itself from the Soviet pincer movement. But the Soviets, alerted by the enormous bonfires used to destroy documents, attack at night and defeat the entire division. The Führer demands an explanation from Paulus, who is covering for Seydlitz. Hitler, furious with Paulus, incredibly promotes Seydlitz himself and assigns him the northern part of the pocket. Even more incredibly, when Paulus asks Seydlitz what he wants to do, he replies that he will obey the Führer!
