After being abandoned for more than a century, the restoration of the Bourbon Fortress of Civitella del Tronto began (and was completed in 1985), the place where the Bourbon garrison, the last bastion of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, after a siege lasting about 5 months by the Sardinian-Piedmontese army, surrendered in 1861.
