Guglielmo Marconi is acquitted of charges related to the 1921 bankruptcy of the Banca Italiana di Sconto, of which he was president. However, his assets had previously been frozen, and Marconi is left bitter. He decides to sail with his yacht, Elettra, to Canada and the United States to find spiritual peace and distraction in wealthy America.
