United States. Battle of Tippecanoe. American Governor Harrison (the “Long Knives Governor,” in Shawnee terminology) sends 250 infantry, several hundred militia, and 50 Kentucky volunteers against Tecumseh’s Shawnee tribe. The Americans win a tactical victory. He will cite it several years later to win the presidency. At the Battle of Tippencanoe, the British are considered the true instigators, with the Indians merely the perpetrators.
