Fifteen thousand Mongol, Chinese, and Jurchen soldiers, joined by 8,000 Koreans, set sail on 900 junks and landed in Japan at Hakata on the island of Kyushu. A terrible storm broke out, catching the invaders by surprise. Most of the ships sank, and the few survivors had no choice but to return home.
