The African campaign cost the Axis forces 1 million men killed, wounded, and taken prisoner, 8,000 aircraft, 6,200 guns, 2,500 tanks, 70,000 vehicles, and 2.5 million tons of merchant shipping sunk by the British thanks to Enigma interceptions.
