Lodi. It was the Lombard League’s first target. Lodi had always been a staunch ally of the Empire. Initially, the Milanese attempted to bring Lodi into the anti-Frederick camp, but faced with their firm refusal, they deployed before the city and began military operations. While Lodi was heavily bombed, the surrounding countryside was systematically pillaged. The Cremonese also built a pontoon bridge over the Adda River to block Lodi’s port and completely isolate it.
