Volpino Castle. The pro-imperial Bergamasques and the pro-Milanese Brescians fight over it. The Brescians attack. The Bergamasques are taken by surprise and scatter. Over 2,500 Bergamasques are taken prisoner, and hundreds of them are killed. The city has 10,000 inhabitants and has just lost nearly 3,000 adult males. A catastrophe. Bergamo immediately asks for peace. A thousand Bergamasque heads of families swear an oath. Milan triumphs.
