Halley’s Comet passes perihelion. Halley had already demonstrated in 1705 that the comets of 1531, 1607, and 1682 were the same comet, Halley’s Comet. He had predicted its return for 1757 or 1758. In reality, Jupiter and Saturn altered its orbit, delaying its return. Clairaut calculated the perturbation, estimating perihelion for April 13, 1759. It occurred on March 13, 1759.
