The Kingdom of Hungary was founded by the Magyars only three centuries ago. In 1241, another nomadic people of the steppe, the Mongols, wiped it out in a single day at the Battle of Liegnitz, at Mohi, on the banks of the Sajo River. The Mongols, commanded by General Batu, defeated the Magyars, who fought static, European-style, thanks to skillful maneuvering.
