Sunday morning. Larry Page and Sergey Brin meet with Andy Bechtolsheim, a legendary Silicon Valley investor (and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, among other things). They had been put in touch by one of their Stanford professors, David Cheriton. Bechtolsheim senses the deal and writes a check for $100,000 to the two young men, who don’t even have a company or even the equivalent of a VAT number. They put the check in a drawer for two weeks, long enough to found Google Inc.
