Architect Stanford White is fatally shot three times by Pittsburgh financier Harry K. Thaw, who claims he is the lover of his wife, Evelyn Nesbit. The incident takes place in front of the 400 wealthiest people in the United States gathered at Madison Square Garden. Thaw will later be hospitalized for mental illness. The victim, White, was also the architect of Tesla’s Wardenclyffe Tower on Long Island, which was never completed.
