Mutineers abandon Hudson at sea. The crew of the Discovery, starving after a winter trapped in Hudson Bay, mutinied, abandoning English captain Henry Hudson and eight others in a lifeboat and never hearing from them again. Hudson had made four expeditions to the New World, exploring much of the North American coast, and Hudson Bay, the Hudson River, and Hudson Strait bear his name. The crew of the Discovery eventually returned to England where they were arrested for mutiny.
