Astronomer Francis Baily, after observing an eclipse from Italy, demonstrated that the small luminosities observed at the edges of the lunar disk during a total eclipse, due to the lunar conformation (not to be confused with solar prominences), are part of the solar corona. They are still called Baily’s grains.
