Dallas, Texas. Micah Xavier Johnson, a 25-year-old Black Afghanistan veteran, opens fire on several police officers at a “Black Lives Matter” protest over the killing of an unarmed Black man stopped by police for a broken headlight. Johnson kills five officers and wounds others. Every year, 120-150 officers lose their lives in the line of duty. But there is no precedent for such a war-zone-like ambush. In 2015, 346 Black people were killed by law enforcement. African Americans are three times more likely to be killed by police than whites. In 2015, in 97 percent of killings, no police officers were charged.
