A massive asteroid or comet, nearly 1 km in diameter, crashes into Jupiter at 57 degrees South, leaving a dark spot the size of the Pacific Ocean. It is first observed by Australian amateur astronomer Anthony Wesely. The explosion has been estimated to be over a thousand times larger than the Tunguska explosion and a million times larger than the Hiroshima bomb.
