Thomas Alva Edison sits on the edge of his bed to read a telegram: Judge Wallace has upheld his patent for electric light using a bulb. After all the imitations, challenges, and infringements of the previous 11 years, his first light bulb, in 1880, finally shines without a shadow! Westinghouse will appeal, and Edison will still not receive the $15 million in back payments United States Electric owes him. Judge Wallace’s decision will be upheld by the U.S. Court of Appeals on October 5, 1892.
