Vienna. Word spreads that a sixteen-year-old boy dressed in women’s clothing attempted to set fire to the arsenal, overloaded with ammunition and gunpowder. The boy suffers a terrible death. He is lynched by an enraged mob, leaving only his dismembered torso, as if mauled by wild beasts. The city is plunged into rage and panic.
