Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel, convinced of imminent defeat, wants to save Germany by negotiating with the Allies and, if necessary, taking direct action (a coup d’état). While returning to Germany, his car is hit by British planes and he is wounded in the head. Following an assassination attempt on Hitler, his name is revealed, and the SS kills him on October 13th.
