The Seven Days’ Battle ends with another massacre: General Lee repeatedly sends his men into assaults against well-defended Union positions. The carnage is lethal: over 6,000 casualties. Once again, the destructive force of rifled weapons prevails over the courage of the infantry. Throughout the battle, the Confederates lose 20% of their soldiers.
